Don't set the pressure much greater than 60 psi. Not only does high pressure cause leaks, it wastes water and can actually be dangerous.

If you didn't have a pressure-reducing valve installed between the municipal water system and your house, the water pressure would break all your water lines and appliances. The pressure in a municipal system can be as much as 200 psi to service fire hydrants and high-rise buildings, but the pressure in a typical residence is usually around 50 psi. The step-down regulator near your water meter or just outside the house is usually factory-set. If you need to adjust it higher or lower, the procedure is simple, but you may need a water pressure meter if there isn't one there already.

The 1" Watts Series 009 Reduced Pressure Zone Assemblies are Watts "contractor grade" RPZ device. They were in production from 1989-1992. The original 1" 009 was replaced by the 009M2 in 1992. The 009 features a one cover design and is constructed of bronze and use check modules that slide into the body and are held in place with a retainer. The relief valve assembly slides down between the retainer and is directly under the cover. The check modules and relief valve assembly come apart for service. The original 009s parts do not interchange with the "M" models, so please be sure which model you have before ordering. No special tools are required for servicing 009 Series devices. If you experience a sudden reduction in water pressure, it's a good idea to check with the water company. There may be a temporary problem with the municipal system, and if you adjust your valve and the municipal problem is corrected, your pressure will be too high.
