which is basically what sioux chief has but is built into the tail piece instead of the bell of the trap. i have never used the jr smith water saver and it doesnt look as efficient as the sioux chief trap-ease - - - - - - - PLUMBERS "Protecting The Health Of The Nation"

DigiTemp® Jr Digital is a digital hot water master blending system that provides fail-safe control for commercial, institutional and industrial domestic water applications. Configurable on-site and easy to install, DigiTemp Jr doesn't require factory pre-programming, a laptop, or special software when commissioning or making adjustments. It anticipates flow change to control output water temperature within ±2°F of set point in compliance with ASSE 1017. DigiTemp Jr can be connected to a building automation system (BAS) via both BACnet and Modbus protocols to provide remote read/write access to a range of temperature and pressure measurements which allows adjustment of the outlet temperature setting within a pre-programmed range. Temperature setback feature contributes to energy efficiency and savings. The valve also features a high-temperature sanitization mode to help mitigate the risk of waterborne bacteria like Legionella as part of a user-directed and controlled thermal eradication protocol.Features and BenefitsMax 200psi operating pressureProgrammable set point range 60°F to 180°FPrecise temperature control ±2°FAvailable in sizes ¾ inch, 1 inch, 1 ½ inch and 2 inchFlow from 23 to 125 GPM @ 10psi pressure drop3.5” full-color, user-selectable touch screen displayUser programmable high temperature alarmPasscode protected for securitySupports BAS communication with BACnet MS/TP & Modbus RTU“Bubble tight” shut off prevents temperature creepProgrammable hi/lo temperature alert Programmable schedule for setback of temperatureOn board clock for time stamping of error messagesUser-enabled sanitization mode to mitigate the risk of waterborne pathogensHigh speed actuator with manual overrideLow lead certifiedWarranty5-year limited warranty with 1-year labor CertificationsValve: ASSE 1017, IAPMO cUPC, NSF/ANSI/CAN 61-GController: CSA 24/UL873, BACnet Testing Laboratory (BTL) listed

There are several alternate ways to accomplish it, if the drain is in or near a bathroom, such as primer tailpieces for flushometers, the trap ease for lavatories, etc. But for a laundry floor drain, in the absence of a sink, the inline ones may be the best option. One problem with "sidearm" units is that the system may be designed so well that there is little pressure drop to activate them.

there are pvc drains with primer holes. if you have a lavatory close you could get a threaded tail piece with primer on it. they work much better than any primer you tie into the water service. - - - - - - - PLUMBERS "Protecting The Health Of The Nation"

Two questions: 1) I'm installing a floor drain and an automatic floor drain trap primer system in a laundry room in a second floor apartment. I would like to know which primer (make and model) YOU would recommend. I do NOT need an electronic primer system but I am looking for a quality primer, not a p.o.s. This is for a residential 2 family building. There are many to choose from. 2) It appears there is not much of a selection in floor traps that have a tail for primer systems unless you go commercial which is a different animal (cast > than 2". The floor drain trap/pipe in the apartment is 2" PVC. What's out there on the shelves? Thanks and may all your beers be cold

1)Watts 200, air gap, unions (if it goes bad, it's quick fix) Drawbacks: must be in horizontal, and if you don't want to see it, you'll need an access panel, unless you have a sink nearby. 2)Trap primers usually go into the floor drain body, If you have enough room on your standpipe, you can put in a tee and bush it down.

I think my question was misunderstood. I am not asking about PVC primer, I am talking about a floor drain trap primer. Keeps water in the trap so it will not go dry and allow gas to pass into the room. Thanks for the response anyway.

I would go with a Sioux Chief prime-rite or a PPP-555. Unless you have a sink or lav close then you could use a trap primer tailpiece. I like to use the tailpiece style due to it takes very little to clog a potable water trap primer. Tailpiece style are much easier to clean out if they ever stop up. PlumbBest, Oatey, and some others make trap primer tailpieces. Also Jay R. Smith makes a p-trap with a trap primer outlet on it... it's a model Jay R. Smith 2698. Hope this helps -Z

1. The only reliable primers are the inline ones such as JR Smith's. 2. There is a BAP adapter the fits into the "P" trap's bell and a short piece of PVC/ABS to the drain outlet, (but it can be inverted if desired). It has a 1/2" compression fitting for the primer's outlet.
