A thermostatic mixing valve is a type of valve that is used in mixing hot and cold water to get the desired temperature. They are often found in showers, sinks, and other household plumbing fixtures. Different types of thermostatic mixing valves can be purchased for homes or offices. Some are more common than others, but all have their own benefits. The most popular type of thermostatic mixing valve is the 2-handle model which has one handle for hot water and another for cold water. This type of valve tends to be easier to install because there is only one hole needed in the wall instead of two like you would need with a 3-handle model.

Hi Richard! Thank you for all of your thorough feedback, we enjoy reading it and gaining insight from all of our customers. The self draining vacuum breakers you purchased are in fact frost resistant. Unfortunately, none of our vacuum breakers are 100% frost proof, however so long as you are not in an area where you are experiencing drastic temperatures below zero for long periods of time this should work just fine for you. With that being said, you will not need to remove the hose in order for these to drain properly and resist freezing. You can absolutely leave the hose connected without running the risk of your hose bibb being ruined. It is imperative that the hose bibb is fully turned off prior to the first freeze and after ever use during cold months should you use it. It is also recommended that you remove any remaining pressure in the hose by using any sort of hose nozzle and holding the 'trigger' down until nothing else comes out of it. We do recommend that the hose is wrapped up and off the ground to prevent it from freezing due to any liquids remaining in the line, however if this is not done it should not effect your vacuum breaker or your hose bibb. I hope this helps put your mind at ease, but if you have any additional questions or concerns please feel free to reach out to us. We look forward to talking with you next spring to see how these worked out for you! Have a great week!

Designed for use on yard hydrants and hose bibbs to prevent the reverse flow of polluted water into the potable water supply due to back siphonage. This self-draining Lead Free hose bibb vacuum breaker will automatically drain when the water is shut off, even when attached to a hose. Now you won't have to worry about leaving hoses connected during cold weather. These protect against potential health risks and contamination in potable water. Comes complete with a breaking set screw. Once tightened set screw will break off to prevent tampering and removal.

Frost free hose bibs getting ruined every year because hoses were not removed is a big and expensive problem . I got these self draining vac breakers to see if they would actually work to prevent damaged hose bibs . They do seem to drain the hydrant IF THE VALVE IS SHUT OFF AND THE HOSE NOZZEL IS OPENED LONG ENOUGH TO ALLOW THE WATER TO DRAIN Out .Apparently the hose will not need to be removed to prevent the hose bib from being damaged in freezing weather . [ Whether or not one needs to remove the hose itself to above freezing location to protect it is another matter .] However there is a sticker on these self draining breakers that says to keep them from freezing . So I will have to try to test that this winter .

Thermostaticmixing valvehow it works

Thermostatic mixing valves are an important part of all hot water systems because they can easily and consistently achieve the desired water temperature. To prevent scalding, inspect your current hot water system to see if thermostatic mixing valves are needed. Newer homes were likely built with TMV’s as part of the building code.

Thermostatic mixing valves are an important part of any hot water system. These valves allow for the mixing of cold water with hot water, which results in a comfortable temperature. This is helpful because it reduces the amount of time that you need to spend adjusting the temperature on your shower or sink. Other benefits of these valves include:

As we previously mentioned, a thermostatic mixing valve is a device that regulates the flow of hot and cold water to ensure that the water temperature stays within a specific range. These valves are installed in showers, sinks, faucets, spigots, and other plumbing fixtures. There are two types of TMV's: single-control (SC) and double-control (DC). Single control TMV's have one handle or knob for controlling both hot and cold water together. Double-control TMV's have two handles that separately control hot and cold water. SC valves are often used in residential applications because they can be installed on an existing fixture with existing piping connections. DC valves are typically used in commercial applications.

Excellent purchase! Easy to install adn worth the money. This order was so good I placed and am awaiting a second order earlier this week.

A thermostatic mixing valve (TMV) is a device that automatically controls the temperature and flow of water in your shower and sink. A TMV works by maintaining a set temperature, so you can enjoy comfortable showers without worrying about scalding or freezing. This means there’s no need to turn it off when someone else wants to use the hot water because the TMV will keep it at a comfortable level for all users. With a TMV, you also don’t have to worry about adjusting the tap every time you want more hot water because it will do this automatically.

Thermostatic mixing valves function by using the water pressure from the hot water supply line to open a pathway inside the mixing valve which allows cold water flow to enter the mixing chamber. The cold water is then heated up by passing through coils that are immersed in hot water. When it reaches the desired temperature, an actuator closes off the valve so that there is no more cold water entering into the mixing chamber. The valves are designed with an anti-scald device that prevents sudden temperature changes and avoids burns caused by hot tap water coming out of a faucet when the hot water is turned on.
