Check valves are one-way valves, often installed in pipelines to prevent backflow. They allow flow to freely flow one way, but the valve will close if the flow turns, protecting the piping, valves, and pumps.

Check valves and non-return valves perform the same function to prevent backflow and allow the flow of fluid/gas in only one direction. What differs between the two is that check valves have a control parameter set to a certain pressure, whereas non-return valves do not.

A check valve controls the flow of fluids in one direction, using two ports, an inlet and an output. Check valves work by measuring the pressure, and if it is higher on the outlet side, the valve will close. If the pressure is not high enough on the input opening, it will close.

Check valves will emit warning signs if they start showing symptoms of failing. Look out for warning signs such as reverse flow, unusual noises, lose internal parts, and excessive component damage. Spotting signs early will prevent costly repairs and complete valve failure.
