Plenty Duplex D-Type Basket Strainers - dual basket strainer
Sediment filterReplacement
Very good unit but the tape should be replaced with rubber washer.. After several attempts to seal with Teflon tape I got a filter hose washer for a sink. It fits in the unit and the fittings sealed right away. I have done pluming so I do have experience.
I purchased this unit as a sediment filter for my whole house, to try and cut down on the dirt and sediment in my hot water tank. I have it connected to the main water line into my house and it is working great so far. I have installed a 5 micron filter cartridge and do not have any troubles with water flow. I change the element every 4 – 5 months just as a precaution, but it could last longer if necessary. Basic Plumbing skills required for installation. Triton, New Found Land April 1, 2008
Sediment filtertypes
Whole house sediment filter is an excellent way to remove sediment such as dirt, rust, sand, loose scale, algae and other particulate matter from your house water. Water supplies often have high levels of sediment and particulates, such as rust , sand, silt, mud, loose scale etc. Sediment is aesthetically undesirable in drinking water and can also reduce the life of plumbing fixtures, appliances, pump seals and hot water tanks.

Bought this to replace an old threaded canister for our trailer. The best feature of this unit is you don’t require tools to change the filter. Just push the red button to relieve the pressure and give the bowl a little twist, comes right off. Install the new cartridge, line up the tabs, a small twist, and it’s locked on… no leaks, couldn’t be easier. David, Fenelon Falls, ON Sep 26, 2011
Rainfresh whole house sediment filters reduce sediment, giving you clean fresh water throughout the home. Whole house sediment filters can be used on any water source, well, lake, river or municipally treated, and are ideal for homes, cottage/cabins, farms, offices, boats or RV.
Rust is formed when dissolved iron (ferrous) oxidizes to a particle form (ferric). Homes on urban water supplies get rust from corrosion of old distribution piping which is common in many Canadian cities. Homes on private wells can have naturally occurring rust or through the well system. Rust is not considered as a health contaminant but is recommended to be removed for aesthetic reasons (taste, odour, colour, sediment and protection of plumbing devices such as water heater). Since rust is a particle, it can be removed by sediment filters. Homes on private wells that have high ferrous iron (dissolved) should consider a whole house iron reduction system.
Yes, to achieve lower pressure drop and higher flow, sediment filters can be installed in a parallel configuration. However, both filter cartridges must be the same rating.
My sediment filter plugs up very fast You can install a coarser sediment filter before to take some dirt load off the filter. If the dirt in the water is excessively high, then you may consider backwashable sediment filters to reduce the dirt load on the filter. Contact us for details.

Iron is dissolved in the water and as such cannot be removed by sediment filters. However, rust (oxidized iron) which is in a particle form, can be efficiently reduced by sediment filters.

Yes, it is common to put sediment filters in series. Typically the coarser cartridge is installed first followed by the finer cartridge. You can install 3 or more in series with progressively finer cartridges.

Installing a sediment filter between the pump and the pressure tank can cause damage to the filter and the pump. When the filter gets plugged up and the pressure switch calls for the well pump to come on, the pump will be pushing water against a plugged filter which can destroy the filter or the pump. Therefore, sediment filters should always be installed AFTER the pressure tank.
It features a transparent sump with a 1/8 turn bayonet locking feature that does not require a wrench to open. Simply open the sump by grabbing and twisting. This unique feature in the whole house sediment filter makes cartridge changes very easy. Moreover, since the sump is transparent, you can see your filter working. The filter also features a pressure relief valve that vents the pressure off before cartridge change or bleeds the air off when allowing water into the unit.
No. However, if you intend to disinfect your water by a UV system, a sediment filter is mandatory for proper functioning of the UV system.

I have used this filter for five years and according to the manufactures website on the proper use of the proper filter to get what you want. I cannot taste the chlorine at all or smell it. In fact I did a liquid PH TEST AND CHLORINE TEST. To my surprise no chlorine and my pH level is 7.8. When I first test for Chlorine is was level three, you could smell and taste it, but after I installed this system with the pH retest, everything was good and could drink my water. I purchased a FC300 filter to be installed at my summer home. While handling the filter, my 82 years of age fingers quit on me; I dropped the sump and broke it. I was desperate; I called the service dept. in Toronto. Within 24 hours a new sump was delivered to my home, in Quebec City That is what I call SERVICE. Installation; Have ready a cutter (for clean cut), 2 quick adaptors, and steel wool (to clean the copper pipe after the cut) and in exactly 12 minutes it is installed.
Bought this filter housing back in December 2013 as an undersink filter. Bought the 1 micron element and so far so good. Installation took me roughly 35-40 minutes with minimal tools, though you need to know what to buy because this housing doesn’t come with any hardware, for me it was a simple braided flex hose, a couple of brass fittings and teflon tape (which adds around 8$). Overall great product, easy to install, filter elements are easy to find and cheap plus they are NFS/ANSI & CSA certified! Montreal, QC Jan 21, 2014
Just finished installing this filter housing in my basement with a 5 micron filter cartridge. This unit is a housing only and you have to choose which micron cartridge you want separately. I absolutely love the easy-open design and pressure valve at the top. I researched Rainfresh and found that this product is BPA-free and made /certified in Canada. Gives me peace of mind that my water is not going through some weird plastic made overseas. If you know how to cut pipe, installation is a piece of cake. I give it 4.5 stars out of 5. EXCELLENT BUY 🙂 Customer from Newmarket, Ontario, Sep 27, 2013

A micron, is a unit of measurement. 1 micron = 1/1000 mm, denoted as µ (Human hair is about 100 microns in diameter). Micron rating of a filter cartridge refers to the smallest particle size in microns that the filter cartridge is capable of removing. For example, a 30 micron cartridge will remove particulates as small as 30 micron while a 5 micron filter cartridge will remove particulates as small as 5 micron. The lower the micron rating of the filter cartridge, the tighter the filter and the smaller the particle size it can remove.

Rainfresh whole house sediment filter is tested and certified to the highest industry standards. It is certified by CSA Group to NSF/ANSI 61 for material safety and structural integrity. It is also certified by CSA Group against NSF/ANSI 372 for low lead requirements and to CSA B483.1.
Although carbon filters fit the same housing, they should not be used for main-line application since their performance is rated only at about 1 GPM. On main lines, where flow rates are much more than 1 GPM (typically 5 to 8 GPM), carbon filters will not perform well, can cause substantial drop in water pressure or can plug prematurely. If whole house taste and odour reduction is required, you can install a Rainfresh whole house carbon filter system.
