Due to the nature of solenoid valves, it is especially important to filter out particulates before they can enter the valve, potentially causing damage to the internal components. Solenoid Valves rely on small weep holes to operate properly. Dirt and debris can clog the sweep hole, requiring maintenance and cleaning to return the valve to working order. Installing a strainer inline with your valve is a terrific way to ensure your valve will continue to work as needed. In short, it is much simpler to remove a strainer mesh than a valve, or pump.
