The Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) protects your home from water pressure that is higher than what the plumbing fixtures in your home were designed to handle. By code, water pressure inside your house should be between 40-80 pounds per square inch (psi). If the water pressure delivered by your water supplier is higher than that, a pressure reducing valve is installed on the main water line serving the home to bring this down to an appropriate level.
ProLine FoilHeat floor heating systems feature a unique, highly efficient construction. The FoilHeat cut-and-turn floor heating mat is designed for use under carpet, laminate, engineered wood and other floating floors.
The membrane can dramatically reduce installation time. And the Prodeso membrane is safe under all conditions and weather (for outdoor applications) and can be used to heat a wide variety of floor surfaces. It even waterproofs the substrate in the case of overlaying on cracked or imperfectly cured floors with a risk of vapor stress.
FoilHeat is an ultra thin electric radiant floor heating system primarily for use under laminate, engineered wood, glued hardwood and other floating floors. The principle advantages of using FoilHeat include ease of installation, rapid response time, and uniform heating of your laminate flooring. The special materials used makes it free from problems of ‘Hot-Spots’ or localized heating.
ProLine Prodeso floor heating systems feature an innovative uncoupling and waterproofing membrane system for heating floors and other surfaces without movement or expansion joints in the screed. The membrane is laid out directly over the subfloor and then heat cable is placed in the channels of the membrane. Tile or other flooring can then be placed directly over the membrane.
If your water pressure doesn’t seem to be as strong as it once was or you notice a significant loss of pressure when you use more than one fixture at the same time, your pressure reducing valve may be bad. If you don’t usually use different tubs and showers at the same time, you may first notice this issue when you have guests over and the demand is higher than normal.
ProLine TileHeat floor heating systems are the top radiant floor heating systems on the market. The popular floor heating system utilizes thin heat cable that is available off spools or pre-spaced in mats. The mats can be rolled out for quick, easy installation.

The floor heating system is also versatile. In addition to being ideal for heating floating floors, FilmHeat can also be used to heat a variety of other floor types.
Featuring electric resistance heat cables, electric radiant heat systems can heat a surface in 30 to 60 minutes. In order to heat the same floor, hydronic radiant heating systems use a boiler to first heat the water, then pump it through the PEX cable, heating the same area in anywhere from 4-7 hours, a considerable difference in performance.
Sometimes the valve itself will burst and start leaking. If you have a muddy or flooded spot in the flower bed, this could be the reason.
There are three main components both hydronic and electric radiant heated floor systems share: a heating element (electric resistance cable, or PEX cable for hydronic systems), a contactor/control center and an activation device (thermostat, timer, etc.).
Water pressure valve
It is sometimes possible to adjust the pressure at the PRV to lower it. However, if the PRV is more than a few years old, this is often risky. By attempting to adjust it, it may stop working altogether or even start leaking.
You might expect ghosts and ghouls from horror stories, right? But a different kind of nightmare scares many adults — and it’s not haunted houses.
The PRV won’t last forever, though. They are made with rubber parts and springs that will eventually wear out or get gummed up with particles in the water. Usually, PRVs fail slowly over time. It may take a while for you to notice there is an issue, especially if your usage habits aren’t very demanding.

FoilHeat system is made with fluoropolymer insulated heating cables that are sandwiched between two layers of specially reinforced aluminum foil. The uniform spacing of the heating elements, further backed by the aluminum foil, ensures even heat distribution. The heating element is connected to a power-supply cable, which exits the laminate mat from one corner. The power lead is a flat thin two core flexible cord, consisting of two insulated conductors with a metal sheath and an outer sheath. Depending on your heating requirement, FoilHeat is available in 120 and 240 volts at 12 watts per square foot. Mats are available in predetermined lengths with cold tail – prefabricated and tested in a carefully controlled factory environment.

Electric radiant heat is provided by electric under floor heating cable. The system relies on a network of cables installed beneath the surface of the floor controlled by a thermostat that coordinates with sensors to keep floors at optimum temperature. Each room, or zone, can be controlled separately by its own thermostat, making radiant floor heating systems a very efficient and customizable way to maintain warmth in your home.

Sometimes it can be a combination of these contributing factors. For more confirmation that the sound is caused by the PRV, go to where it is located and listen. It should be noticeably louder right next to the PRV.
Legacy Plumbing’s service area is on the north side of the Dallas Metroplex. Most of the PRVs around here are located on the main water line right where it comes up under the perimeter of the home in the front flower bed.

These noises can also be caused by other things as well, such as a failed expansion tank, quick closing solenoid valves on new appliances, bad vacuum breakers, faulty valves with loose washers, worn-out toilets fill valves, improperly strapped pipes, etc.
Perhaps the most ideal system for heating laminate and floating floors, FilmHeat floor heating systems feature near paper-thin heating elements. This system offers consumers one of the best values for installing radiant heat under floating floors. The heating panels (just 0.016-inch thick) is easy to install, and remarkably effective. The panels heating element is rolled out directly over the underlayment, and the floating floor is installed on top. No alarms, special tools, or self-leveling compounds are needed.
If your faucets, toilets, or appliances need frequent repair, this could be a symptom of high water pressure. Most fixtures are rated for a maximum working pressure of 80 psi. If you have a pressure that is continually higher than this, parts will wear out and things will break more quickly.
When PRVs start to wear out, they can cause many strange issues with the water pressure throughout your home. As we go through these different symptoms, it is important to know that they will usually occur all over the house at the same time when they are caused by a failed PRV. If you are having any of these issues on only a single fixture in your home, then the issue probably isn’t with the PRV.
On homes built after 2010, it is more common to find them in other places. Check in the garage for a wall panel with plumbing pipes inside. We have also located them in the walls under stairs, closets, and laundry rooms.
The FoilHeat mats can be cut and shaped on site to meet the specific requirements of the project. (NOTE: Cut the mat foil only. Do not cut or damage the heating cable in the mat.) The efficient floor heating system can be used to heat any size or shape room, from basements to bedrooms, offices, etc.

Electric radiant floor heating systems, such as TileHeat and FoilHeat, are usually the most practical, flexible choice for most residential floor heating projects. Electric radiant floor heating systems are relatively inexpensive to install, easily customizable and require no maintenance.
No Floor Buildup: The thin heating element is just 0.016-inch thick, and does not require any adhesives or self-leveling compound.
Warm feet are a big reason for installing heated floors, especially if you have a lot of hardwood or ceramic tile in your home. Heating from the floor up is a great way to control cold drafts at floor level.
Although PRV issues usually happen slowly, sometimes problems can crop up overnight. If you have no water pressure throughout the house on both the hot and cold, your PRV may be bad. Make sure you check both the hot and cold water. If there is good pressure on the cold and not the hot it may be an issue with the water heater or the fixture itself.
Heated floors are simply a smart, efficient way to heat your home. As the name implies, heated floors radiate heat from the floor up, keeping you warm and comfortable from head to toe during the cold winter months. Radiant heated floors are an economical way to heat homes and boost equity.
Efficiency is another great reason to install a heated floor. Unlike forced air systems, radiant heated floor systems are room specific. With the help of sensors and a programmable thermostat you can opt to heat one room, or several, depending upon your needs, and realize considerable savings on your monthly gas bill.
Few things are as essential as plumbing fixtures when maintaining and enhancing your home’s comfort. These fixtures help keep the water flowing where it’s needed
Repetitive knocking or consistent humming noises that seem to come from the walls when you run different fixtures are often caused by a failed PRV.
Easy "roll out" installation Thin profile results in minimal floor buildup (5.5 mm) No thin-set is required. Lightweight design makes Prodeso ideal when the floor's load bearing capacity is limited Uncoupling crack isolation Waterproofing Makes it possible to eliminate some of the otherwise necessary expansion joints Low thermal inertia. Tile (or other flooring) is installed directly on top of the heating cable.
