To appreciate the need for backflow preventers, it is important to know what backflow is. Backflow is the undesired reverse flow of water that contains harmful contaminants such as bacteria, pollutants, or chemicals. To combat this risky phenomenon, plumbing systems use backflow preventers. This device consists of a combination of valves or vacuums that connect to sewage pipes and sprinkler systems. These devices must be installed on all domestic water supplies, fire protection water supplies, lawn irrigation systems, and more. Furthermore, the current Illinois Administrative Code requires testing before initial operation and at least annually after the initial inspection. This service allows professionals to catch small issues before they pose a big risk to your family and community.

On August 16th, 2021, the first National Backflow Prevention Day was celebrated nearly a century after one of the most tragic backflow incidents in U.S. history. The 1933 Chicago World Fair attracted people from all over the world to see the rapidly growing metropolis of Chicago. Unfortunately, two of the main hotels that these visitors stayed at had cross-connections that badly contaminated the water supply. This led to over 2,000 individuals falling ill and nearly 100 deaths. National Backflow Prevention Day commemorates this tragic incident while raising awareness about the importance of backflow prevention. Moreover, this holiday gives us the chance to thank the people who install, maintain and test backflow preventers.

Ah, let's paint a happy little conversion here. To find the temperature in Fahrenheit, we simply multiply the Celsius temperature by 1.8 and then add 32. So, 2 degrees Celsius is about 35.6 degrees Fahrenheit, and 8 degrees Celsius is about 46.4 degrees Fahrenheit. Remember, every temperature is just a different color on the beautiful canvas of life.
