At Crew Supply Co., we've taken inspiration from both iconic strainer styles to create the perfect fusion. Our Standard Strainer is an innovative crossbreed that combines the elegance of a Julep strainer with the functionality of a Hawthorn strainer, resulting in a versatile tool that's indispensable for craft beverage programs. By embracing the best of both worlds, our Standard Strainer empowers bartenders to create cocktails visually captivating and impeccably balanced cocktails with style and grace.
Much like other bar tools, how and where to store your strainer is a personal preference. Most bars store their hand tools within arm’s length of a cocktail station for easy access. We suggest placing your strainer within reach of your cocktail station (aka cockpit) and avoid storing strainers - or any tools for that matter - in standing water. The Standard Strainer also boasts a hanging loop if your underbar set-up permits.

Yes, but not always.. Using a fine mesh strainer (aka double straining) is the best way to keep ice shards and particulates from making their way into a cocktail. That being said, not all cocktails require double-straining (though experts differ).
Chill Your Glassware: Before straining your cocktail, make sure your glassware is chilled. A cold glass helps maintain the drink's temperature and enhances the overall drinking experience. Master the Double Strain: For a silky-smooth cocktail, consider double straining. Use your primary strainer as you pour the cocktail from the shaker or mixing glass. Then, for an extra layer of filtration, strain it again through a fine mesh strainer as you pour it into the serving glass. This technique ensures no ice shards or pulp make their way into the final drink. Practice Control: When using a strainer, maintain control over the flow of liquid. Avoid rushing the pour, as this can cause spills or overfilling. Gradually and steadily pour the cocktail into the glass, allowing the strainer to catch any unwanted debris.
In true Crew fashion, we meticulously analyzed each component of this everyday bar tool and redeveloped a better version with bar professionals in mind. The result?
