We just moved into our new home and it has lots of things I’m trying to figure out. Current project is the irrigation system. When we bought it, we were simply told the irrigation system was inoperable. Hubs and I are trouble shooting it. House was built in ‘93, but I have no idea if the system was installed at that time or later. I have many, many questions but I’ll start with this, the backflow preventer. Appears to be a Febco 850. It was completely buried in mud. Obviously had not seen the light of day in YEARS. We dug until we found it. Nothing appears to be leaking, but I’ve read that the test valves don’t last forever. And honestly when we do turn on the water to the system all the solenoids leak so I don’t even know if water is getting to it to show a leak if it has one. Should I just go ahead and replace them? Or if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it?
