As you install a system, it’s almost inevitable that small fragments of dirt will get into the pipe, for this reason you should always flush out the system before running it the first time. This can be done by leaving an open end at the farthest point of each irrigation zone & operating the zone for 15 or so seconds to flush it out. Then plug it up & you’re good to go! This can also be said for any other times dirt may have gotten into the system (eg: further irrigation repairs or a mains water supply fault).
Valve manufacturers often recommend that valves are flushed on a 6 month basis. This can be achieved by lifting the lever on the end of a valve for 30 seconds. By flushing the valve, any dirt or grime can escape and stop the valve from blocking up in the future.
Would you please pass on my thanks and appreciation on to Nathan for solving the problem with my ageing and troublesome solar hart hot water system. The service was prompt and affordable as usual from Conrads Brisbane. Thank you!
Leaking valves do not always indicate a fault in your system. Watch the valves over a few days to see the quantity and duration of the leak. If the leak is not frequent and only dripping a small volume of water, this will most likely be a by-product of the heating cycle. For consistent or heavy leaks, call one of our hot water specialists for an affordable service and assessment.
I would like to thank both Jackson and Nathan for helping me out yesterday so quickly. Nathan was excellent and replaced the element in my hot water system heater in no time at all. Again - huge thanks for the hot shower this morning!
PTR valves can be found on all storage hot water cylinders. Its function is to safeguard against a buildup of pressure and temperature inside the tank. Using a heat rod to detect the temperature, PTR valves have the capacity to dump large amounts of water. Although it is common for the valve to drip during the heating cycle, a large water leak indicates the valve may be faulty. When replacing a Pressure Temperature Relief Valve, it is Important to select the correct pressure. The most common causes of a leaking valve include worn components or a faulty thermostat. Our Brisbane emergency plumbers carry a range replacement parts and are experienced in fixing leaking valves.
I had a problem with the pilot light in my gas hot water system. I contacted Conrad Martens plumbing and hot water on Sunday night and one of his team was despatched early the next morning to repair my hot water system. I was impressed with their prompt and friendly service. I would definitely recommend them! to anyone in Brisbane! Julie
We rang with fairly urgent kitchen sink plumbing issues. The issue was fixed on the same day call out and no return of the issues. Extremley goodservice and quality of work. Thanks again.
These brass fixed pressure regulating valves are ideal for systems which require reduced & regulated pressure, like drip irrigation systems. For areas with high pressure.

The main cause of blowout is pressure. Whether it’s poly fittings, PVC fittings or timers, whatever the component, if the pressure is too high for what it’s designed for, kaboom! Simply solve the problem with a pressure reducer & make it a brass one if it’s on your water supply.
Plastic pressure reducers can’t handle constant high pressure so the benefit with a brass pressure regulator is that you can put one on at the water connection for a drip irrigation system rather than one plastic pressure reducer on each zone.

We definitely don’t recommend it. Typically, drip tube will deliver the water at a far slower rate that sprays. Because of this, if you were to have both on the same zone, the areas with drip would be left far drier than the areas with sprinkler coverage. If you do want to water some areas with drip & some with sprinklers, it can be done, but each will just need to be run on their own separate irrigation zones.

Hot water isolation non-return valves are an essential part of every water heater installation. Duo valve allows the isolation of a leaking tank in case of emergency. The simple yet effective design also prevents the flow of hot water back into the mains line. Although it is rare for Duo valves to leak, they can often become jammed and corroded, resulting in low water pressure. The most common configurations available include a blue ¼ turn lever and a black hexagon handle.
Plastic pressure reducers can’t handle constant high pressure so the benefit with a brass pressure regulator is that you can put one on at the water connection for a drip irrigation system rather than one plastic pressure reducer on each zone.
Drip tube is excellent in areas of rich dense soil where water spreads nicely throughout. Installed under mulch, the water is delivered with minimal evaporation & wastage, going direct to the root ball.
Even on a typical domestic system running on mains water a filter is still a good idea. In the event of a water main fault where rubbish does find it’s way down the line, a filter will protect the system from blockage and or failure. On systems operating off recycled water, like from a tank, a screen filter is mandatory. Debris like silt & dirt from recycled water is the most common cause of blockages of failures in irrigation systems.

Often referred to as a cold water expansion valve, ECVs relieve excess water pressure produced by a water heaters heating cycle. Expansion control valves increase the thermal efficiency of a hot water system by reducing the amount of heated water which need to be discharged. Whilst it is common for an expansion control valve to occasionally drip, a leaking valve which constantly runs indicates a problem. The most common causes of a leaking valve (ECV) include failed components or an overloading of water pressure.

There’s no best type of sprinkler, just better sprinklers for different applications. Gear Drives are better for large areas, over 5m. Pop-Ups are ideal for 1.5-5m & Micro sprays are excellent for anything under that.
Each sprinkler & nozzle will push out water at different rates, but the key factor is the flow rate of your water supply. Work that out with a simple timed bucket test. From there, you can work out how much water each sprinkler you’re looking at uses & work within your flow limit. For more information, check our Product Guides.

Suited to heat-exchange hot water units, HPNR valves serve multiple functions including expansion and flow regulation. Our Brisbane hot water specialists stock HPNR valves and are capable of repairing Saxon water heaters. By performing a test on the filler valve, we can determine if the tank or valve is the cause of the leak. For more information, visit our page on Heat Exchanger hot water systems.
No, drip tube isn’t simply holes punched into poly pipe. Inside each hole is an intricate dripper which delivers that water nice and evenly. Punching a hole will simply create an uncontrolled leak!

Depending of the size and style of hot water heater you have, your system may specify a maximum operating pressure. Generally speaking, the majority of storage water heaters in Brisbane require a 500kpa water supply. It is important that this is maintained in order to stop valves from being overloaded and to ensure tank warranty is not void. Whilst PLVs are pre-set, PRV provide the flexibility to dial in exact pressures.
Luckily the replacement unit was the same length as the old 2 to 1 reducer. So replacement was effected in 15 minutes. The new 500kPa pressure reducer exhibits a higher flow rate characteristic relative to the replaced unit. Supply and postage was prompt.
