Very interesting -- a urinal can common vent a floor mounted water closet too. I normally show a circuit vent for banks of floor mounted water closets though. The circuit vent may not recieve discharge from a fixture in the IPC. Thanks for the insight. Joe M in WV

just called my local guru concerning massachusetts regulations to ask about water closet carrier vent being used as urinal drain. the answer was ????????????. i'll get back to you.

That is the way I do it, and also with floor mounted toilets, which are even easier because you can put the toilet connection at the urinal's point and then angel the tee to the center of the water closet opening. The only limitation with a wall hung is that they may have to be exactly on center, because our inspectors will not allow an arm for a urinal drain.

Many times a wall mounted water closet with horizontal carrier in a women's room is backed up to a urinal in the men's room. I have seen the urinal waste connected to the water closet vent from the carrier. Although it was surprising to see the first time, there doesn't seem to be any reason not to consider this a common vent application (IPC section 908). In the IPC a vertical 2" common vent can have a load of up to 4 dfu. A urinal with less than 1 gallon per flush is considered 2 dfu. The only restriction is that the upper fixture may not be a water closet. Thanks in advance for any comments. Joe M in WV

no pardon is needed if testimony is given under the witness protection program, as is the case with the federal perjury indictment of Sal's predecessor, the former speaker of the massachusetts house of representatives.
