The short answer to this question is: No. Neither the NFPA nor the ICC (International Code Council) requires that a proper riser room be provided for a fire sprinkler system’s risers. A system’s risers may be in a hallway or on the outside of a building. Where the reliance on a fire sprinkler system may not be as strong, a designated room may not be provided or necessary.
