PressureGauge home depot

Sometimes bigger is just better. Designed for large capacity supercharged and turbocharged engines, including turbo-diesel engines.

Today I installed my first expansion tank for domestic water. The customer's water heater relief valve was dripping - not only was the city water pressure 100 psi, but the water meter had a check valve to boot. So my coworker installed a pressure reducing valve while I installed the expansion tank. The label on the tank says it is precharged to 40 psi. I installed it as-is. Do these tanks need to have their pressure adjusted, or is it okay to just install them with the factory precharge? The pressure reducing valve we set at 65 psi.

WRONG. You have to set the expansion tank bladder pressure to the *working* main pressure. That way the tank is inflated to evenly match the working pressure, to prevent overextending the bladder. When you opened the box, it should specifically state: Installation I. Before beginning installation determine the system pressure. a. Open a faucet to allow the system pressure to equalize. b. Read the system pressure at the pressure gauge (Figure 1). c. Close faucet. !. The expansion tank pre-charge must be set to the system pressure as determined in Step 1, Pre-charge prior to installation in the system. ;aution: Pre-charge prior to installation in the sys- tem. Do not adjust the air pre- charge of the expansion tank with the system under pressure. The air pre-charge should only be adjusted under zero system pressure. Note: The normal pre-charge is 40 psi. Do not exceed 80 psi. If system pressure exceeds 80 psi it will be necessary to either: A. Add a pres- sure reducing valve to the system or, B. Locate the expansion tank in a riser where the static pressure is be low 80 psi. Inlet Valve a. Unscrew the protective cap from the air inlet valve. b. Using a tire pressure gauge, check the tank pre-charge pressure. c. If necessary, pressurize the tank to the proper setting using a manual bicycle tire pump. Caution do not exceed 80 psi, d. Replace the protective air cap. , Shut off the water supply valve. 4. Shut off power source to thewater heater, (electricity, gas, oil t switch) and drain system following water heater manufac recommendations. 5. Install the expansion tank in the system (refer to Figure. 1). a. The weigh! of the expansion tank filled with water is supp by the system piping. Therefore, it is important that, w appropriate, the piping has suitable bracing (strapping, ha brackets). b. The expansion tank may be installed vertically (preferred me or horizontally. Caution: The tank must be properly suppi in horizontal applications. c. This expansion tank, as all expansion tanks, may eventually Do not install without adequate drainage provisions. 6. Turn on the water supply valve. 7. Open a hot water fixture and allow water flow until all air is rem from the system. 8. Reapply power to the water heater. 9. Open a hot water fixture to allow a slight flow until the hot w has reached operating temperature. ID.Recheck system pressure following Step 1 .a through c. Caution: Pre-charge prior to installation in the system. Do adjust the air pre-charge of the expansion tank with system under pressure. The air pre-charge shoul on adjusted under zero system pressure. If necessary, adjust the pressure reducing valve to the expan; tank pre-charge as determined in Step 2. •Watts Industries, Inc.—

Cut and paste. I couldn't get my scanner to image the paperwork that comes with the tank, otherwise it would of been a Jpeg link.

I know, I know, I should have read the directions. The customer was watching us the whole time. I did, however, put ball valves before and after the tank, so it would be easy to isolate and therefore adjust the pressure.

if you put ball valves on either side of the tank, one of them has to have the little drip button on the side facing the tank. have you ever tried to unscrew an ex tank without relieving the pressure. those suckers are like a rocket ship..
